The Technology Behind The VE Engine

VECTRO II Electronic Control Unit The nerve center of the Volvo engine. It continuously monitors the engine status and makes adjustments to produce operational reliability, long service life and low operating costs.

Air-to-Air Intercooling
Gives superior fuel economy and peak performance.

Two-Piece Pistons & Optimized Compression Ratio
Allows for minimum white smoke and low internal frictions.

Exhaust Pressure Governor (EPG)
Standard. 225 braking hp @2300 rpm provides efficient braking on grades, superior temperature control at idle, and quick warm-up, providing excellent starting ability as low as 10-degrees (-12 degrees C).

Low Engine Weight Compared To hp Level
Low fuel consumption and excellent response. Allows for additional payload.

Features That Give It That Extra Performance

Volvo Engine Brake (VEB)
Option compression brake. 350 braking hp @2300 rpm offers the industry's highest braking effect within normal cruising rpm (1400-1700). Adds only 25lbs. to engine weight. Wider margin of safety with cooler brakes on long grades and longer life for linings and drums.

Preheater
Optional electrical preheater element provides excellent starting ability as low as -15 degrees F (-27 degrees C), and offers minimum smoke and odor after start, no dilution due to complete combustion and less engine wear.

Power Take-Off (PTO)
Optional front and side engine-driven PTO allows clutch-independent operation, with less maintenance and less weight. Available on WG and AC.
